Jaguar XK8 XKR XJ8 and XJR Rear View Mirror

These mirrors especially with earlier cars can lose their electrochromatic coating. This is indicated by a distinctive split in coloration – top clear and bottom coated darker. Sometimes the fluid in the mirror leaves a large oval shape on the mirror. The fluid is toxic and if it does leak will eat into the plastic on the J Gate. If this happens then you need to either replace with a new mirror or find a good used one. The key here is to identify which type of connector plug you have – white or a yellow. This will require removal of the roof console. See our technical advice section on how to do this. Also the last 6 digits of your car’s Vin will help us identify if your car also has electrochromatic door mirrors, auto dimming, rain sensing etc.
